Figuring out how to do better at leading may be tough because people are looking up to you and are looking at what you’re doing at all times. To be a good leader, you have to have certain skills. Everyone will have a different take on being a good leader, and you have to figure out what goes into being the best leader possible.
Don’t assume that your staff can read your mind. You must be able to communicate to them how you want things done and what expectations you have. This way your staff will not hesitate to ask questions if they do not understand any of your expectations.
A good leader brings creativity out of their team. Using creative thinking and taking risks allows you many opportunities. Go down the path less traveled sometimes. Even if the idea doesn’t work today, it might tomorrow. It is possible to assist others in broadening the scope of their thinking.
If you’re trying to improve your leadership skills, avoid acting like you know everything. Even your perfect ideas can be wrong at times. Don’t let your judgement cloud you or prevent you from listening to others around you. You can get suggestions from them to better, execute, or find issues with your plan.
A good leader should be someone who is approachable. Many people believe that striking fear in peoples’ hearts and intimidating them is the best way for you to show them you are in charge. This will only cause you to be disrespected and loathed. Make sure your team knows you are there to work with them.
Offer incentives to people that do their jobs well. Although everyone is paid for their work, it is still great to offer incentives as ways to show great leadership. If you have an employee that continues to go above and beyond, recognize them. Being cheap is a good way to not have good employees.
Never allow yourself to be overcome with the desire to win. In this day and age it’s simple to start breaking down everything into goals and spreadsheets. People who are excellent leaders do this to stay on track and see how far they need to go. If you try creating success when working, the wins will be won themselves.
What is the difference between your plan and what is actually getting completed? The two could be at odds. You need to clear your mind. Make a note and get back to it later, the task at hand is more important.
Keep your promises. As a leader, you should always do what you say you’re going to do. If there is a reason you must break a promise, an explanation must be provided. Not keeping your promises or making changes to what your plans were will make it to where people don’t respect what you’re doing unless there’s a good reason.
Leadership is about developing methods you can use to effectively guide others to greatness. You will see a huge difference by using these tips. Always be modest and strive for greatness in order to be an effective leader.

The report is correct that its not an indication ofquality care, but its the only possible metric to measure access to the system in the first place. The problem at the VA isnt that wait time was being measured, its that the VA leadership at all levels is focused more on protecting the bureaucracy than on serving its customers, because it has no competition to get it focused on customer service. Another problem area in the report is resources which means budgets: The technology behind the basic scheduling system is cumbersome and outdated. Additional resources, including doctors, nurses, trained support staff and other health professionals, are needed. Many of the resource issues facing the VA are similar to what exists in the private sector.
